Environmental Advisory Board to Review Pasadena Climate Action Plan’s 2019 Annual Report

Pasadena’s Environmental Advisory Commission will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to review the 2019 Pasadena Climate Action Plan Annual Report, which provides updates to track the plan’s progress and implementation.

The Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a strategic framework for measuring, planning, and reducing the city’s share of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which includes an ambitious goal of reducing emissions by more than half by the year 2035.

The City Council approved the CAP in March 2018 to demonstrate Pasadena’s commitment to confront climate change. Even before its approval, the City has pursued a variety of programs and policies to reduce its carbon footprint, such as promoting alternative modes of transportation, increasing the energy efficiency of new buildings, banning plastic bags and polystyrene products, and conserving natural resources.

The 2019 update is expected to lead to a better understanding of the city’s action plan to combat climate change. During Tuesday’s meeting, the commission will compare this annual report to the previous year to see if Pasadena is meeting the set metrics. The first annual report related to the Pasadena CAP was released in 2018.
