PASADENA, Calif.—If you love live music and bicycling—or both—Pasadena is the best place to be this weekend in California with awesome back-to-back special events: the exciting sights and sounds of the sixth annual Make Music Pasadena festival and the second Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia bicycle ride on Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, 2013.�

�Motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and visitors are all urged to allow for extra time to get to the events, navigate through town and find parking.� Hot weather this weekend also means everybody should drink lots of water, use sunscreen and wear hats while outdoors. All are asked to follow instructions of public safety personnel on scene.� Road closure information is included in this announcement.�

�Up to 35,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Make Music Pasadena, the largest free music festival on the West Coast, with more than 100 bands and groups giving more than 150 free concerts at dozens of venues throughout Pasadena.� The all-day, all-ages music festival takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Saturday, June 1 primarily throughout the Downtown Pasadena area in the Old Pasadena, Playhouse District and Paseo Colorado areas.� For up-to-date event schedules and performances, go online to www.makemusicpasadena.org.�

�For Make Music Pasadena, June 1, the following road closure & event information is provided.� The Old Pasadena stage features entertainment from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.� The following streets will be closed from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.�

  • Colorado Boulevard between Fair Oaks Avenue & Arroyo Parkway�
  • Raymond Avenue between Union Avenue & Green Street�

�Entertainment on the Playhouse District stage runs from Noon until 7:00 p.m.� Madison Avenue, between Colorado Boulevard and Green Street will be closed from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.�

�Expect a significant amount of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the downtown area.� Residents are encouraged to use Del Mar Boulevard and Walnut Street for east- and westbound travel or Orange Grove Boulevard and Lake Avenue for north-and southbound travel on event day.�

�The city’s ARTS buses will offer extended, additional and FREE Service on Route 10 serving Make Music Pasadena venues June 1.� Special service announcements and alerts online at www.cityofpasadena.net/Transportation/Arts_Routes_and_Schedules.�

�The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia is a colorful, exciting European-style bicycle ride with opportunities for bicyclists of all ages and abilities to participate in road courses of 25, 69 and 94 miles.� The event begins at 7:00 a.m. June 2 at Pasadena City Hall, and travels throughout the greater Pasadena area.� More than 500 bicyclists are expected to participate, with riders beginning to return to Pasadena City Hall around 8:30 a.m. and throughout the rest of the morning.�

�For Gran Fondo, there are no specific road closures. �There will be rolling escorts along the course and caution is urged when encountering bicyclists.� Event info at www.gfgiro.com.�

�Pasadena’s Public Safety departments have worked diligently with event producers and other city departments to produce a comprehensive action plan for these events, including traffic and crowd control and emergency response.� Any suspicious activity should be reported to Pasadena Police or on-scene public safety personnel.� “If You See Something, Say Something” is an instrumental component in working to keep the Pasadena community safe, every day.�

  • West Coast’s Largest Free Music Festival returns Saturday, June 1 with multiple outdoor stages hosting more than 150 free concerts – ��

PASADENA, CA (May �2013) – Crowds of 35,000 music fans are expected to attend�Make Music Pasadena, West Coast’s largest free music festival Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. This year’s festival lineup features performances by Tanlines, Yacht, Robert DeLong, Hunter Hunted, We are Scientists, Las Cafeteras, and many more including a very special guest headliner to be announced at the end of May. The all-day, all-ages music festival takes place on Saturday, June 1 from 11 am until 11 pm throughout Downtown Pasadena. A list of confirmed acts follows. The final Make Music Pasadena lineup will total over 100 bands and include more than 150 free concerts throughout Pasadena with a mixture of Grammy-award nominees, platinum recording artists, and emerging homegrown talent crisscrossing in one day to celebrate the spirit of music. �

The twelve-hours of unparalleled musical programming will feature every kind of genre including classical, rock, indie rock, Latin, funk, folk and jazz, among others. Pasadena’s largest summer event will host performances in alleys, buses, churches, libraries, museums, rooftops, and other impromptu public spaces throughout Downtown Pasadena. �

Unique performances will take place throughout the day including a 15 piece ukulele orchestra, a special evening performance from rising Brazilian chanteuse Dom La Nena and Sleeping at Last accompanied by strings.� Pop-up stages will be scattered throughout the city including outdoor mini-recitals in parks, museums, restaurants, schools, and other unconventional spaces.� The Pasadena Arts Buses will be running free all day linking main stages as well as host live music on board. �

In addition to thirty smaller performance areas, Make Music Pasadena will feature an eclectic five main stage lineup featuring popular bands from around the world.� The diverse lineup includes such acts as indie rock band Tanlines, Yacht, Robert DeLong, Hunter Hunted, We are Scientists, Taken by Trees, Las Cafeteras among others.���

Make Music Pasadena is modeled on the Fete De La Musique event that started in Paris in 1982 as a way to celebrate music. Fete De La Musique has now spread to over 350 countries participating in World Music Day which falls on June 21st yearly. The aim of Make Music Pasadena is to promote musical practices for all ages and from all cultural and social backgrounds.� The festival creates an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of music and provide top quality programming at no cost to the audience.�
