Two Gofundme campaigns have been started for a Pasadena woman who police say was killed by her husband late last month, and for her daughter, who is now orphaned.
Friends and family of Sylvia Delatorre have raised almost $20,000 dollars in the two campaigns, one for funeral services for Delatorre and the other to help her 13-year-old daughter Sadie Garcia.
Less than half of what is needed to bury Sylvia has been raised.
As of Tuesday, $9,518 has been raised of the $25,000 needed for funeral services for Sylvia, and $10,428 has been raised for Sadie.
“Sadie is a beautiful and smart young lady who attends a local Pasadena middle school,” according to the Gofundme campaign. “She is a great student who aspires to follow her mother’s footsteps to become a registered nurse. Her mother was weeks away from finishing her nursing program and Sadie’s goal is to complete a nursing program in her mother’s honor.”
According to police, 29-year-old Delatorre was shot and killed by her husband, 37-year-old Armando Garcia, an Altadena resident, who then turned the gun on himself. The couple was going through a split.
Police said that during the evening, the man arrived at the victim’s residence armed with a firearm. He entered the residence, shot the victim, and then shot himself. A firearm was recovered from the crime scene near the man’s body.
Police were called to the scene by relatives who found the bodies, according to a police statement.
Officers arriving at about 10:40 p.m. found two unresponsive adults with gunshot wounds, police said. The adults, a male and female, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery / Homicide Unit were immediately called to the scene.
