About 25 percent or a total of 556 of the 2,252 residential buildings in Pasadena have undergone an annual fire inspection for the fiscal year 2022, a report submitted by the Pasadena fire department revealed.

The report also stated that as of April 2022, the fire department completed the inspection of 45 out of the 96 private and public school buildings in Pasadena also required to undergo an annual fire inspection.

The fire department conducts regular inspections of multi-family residential buildings, schools and businesses to prevent fires which could injure people and damage the natural and built environment within Pasadena.

According to its report, it is done inspecting 29 of the total 501 assembly buildings which include churches, clubs and large restaurants. The figure translates to 6 percent.

The department also reported low completion rate on fire inspections on business buildings.

Out of the 776 business buildings used for office, professional or service type transactions required to undergo annual inspection only 95, or 12 percent, have been completed to date.

The department however reported a high completion rate on high risk buildings.

According to its report, the inspection of 11 high-hazard buildings or buildings used for storage and manufacturing of hazardous materials is 100 percent completed and so is the inspection of 3,925 hazardous vegetation or properties located in the very high hazard severity zone.

The fire department will present its report, along with the updates on state mandated fire inspections for discussion on Wednesday, April 20 at the meeting of the Public Safety Committee.
