Fireworks, Parades, and Fun Flag-Waving Celebrations: Marking Independence Day 2018 Pasadena-Style

Independence Day falls in the middle of this week today, but that hasn’t lessened spirits or plans. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate with fireworks (which in Pasadena are only permitted at the Rose Bowl), a BBQ, or something more unusual, the Pasadena area has plenty of ways to get your patriotism on:

Rosebowl Stadium is marking its 92 annual AmericaFest for America’s 241st birthday with its largest-ever fireworks show. Recent American Idol winner Maddie Poppe will be on hand to perform Michael Knights Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Sing-A-Long before the big display. For something a little more intimate, the Madison Heights July 4th Parade and Picnic is in its fourth year, and families from all over Pasadena are welcome to join the fun. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm, Join the procession to Allendale Park or take part crafts for the kids and enjoy live entertainment, and adorable, adoptable dogs from the Pasadena Humane Society’s mobile shelter. With a red, white, and blue menu and dancing to the sounds of the Great American Swing Band courtesy of the Pasadena Showcase House of the Arts, the Pasadena Senior Center is doing its thing to celebrate Independence Day right! SOUTH PASADENA

Celebrate a full day of and activities in South Pasadena at its Festival of Balloons. The day starts with The Kiwanis Club’s annual pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., at the South Pasadena Fire Station, 817 Mound Avenue. Opening Ceremonies for the festivals follows breakfast at the South Pasadena Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro St, and the parade begins at about 11 p.m. Additional food, games and activities for kids will take place from noon to 4 p.m. in Garfield Park. South Pasadena’s Annual 4th of July Fireworks Show will be held at South Pasadena High School. Food vendors will be on site at the show. Pets are not allowed. Stadium – Alcohol and glass bottles are not allowed in the stadium. Field – Only water is permitted on the field, no food.
