First Heatwave of the Year Expected Next Week

Here comes the heat.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will soar into the 90s this weekend and hover near 100 next week.

The increase will begin on Saturday when temperatures reach 87 degrees and increase to 90 on Father’s Day.

After that, temperatures will increase daily and are expected to hit about 99 next Thursday.

“Hot conditions all next week, start to prepare now,” the National Weather Service Los Angeles tweeted. “Most of southwest California will see near record heat next week, especially Tuesday through Friday.”

By next Sunday, temperatures will decline to the mid-80s until they drop to the low 80s.

“Temps will be high,” said Pasadena Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian. “Vegetation is extremely dry, and we’re in a drought so that’s a very volatile combination that can lead to a major fire situation. Additionally, with COVID many people physically are distanced and now is the time to check on elderly neighbors to make sure they have necessities to stay cool and hydrated. Make sure pets have shade and not direct sunlight that can burn their paws and they can overheat. With kids out of school take all precautions to watch them carefully when around bodies of water to cool off.”
