First Tee Pasadena Gives Golf Instruction to Families of Latina Golfers Association Members

First Tee-Greater Pasadena gathered members of the Latina Golfers Association (LGA) – along with their daughters, nieces and granddaughters – at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena for a morning of golf instruction from First Tee coaches and staff recently.

The event was intended to introduce the group members’ immediate families to playing the game of golf in a fun and friendly environment, First Tee said.

Over 30 participants were at the golf course that December 11 morning donned pink First Tee hats, with the coaches guiding each of them through putting, chipping, and full-swing activities.

At a meet-and-greet before the exercises, LGA member Maxine Harris, who’s a senior sales representative for NIKE golf, shared how important she thinks it is that girls and young women pick up the game of golf for their future professional lives.

Founded in 2008 by Azucena Maldonado, the LGA has adopted a mission to introduce women of all ages to the game of golf for professional development, personal enjoyment, and to promote a healthy lifestyle.

“My passion for golf led me to found the Latina Golfers Association,” Maldonado said. “I absolutely love introducing women, especially Latinas, to golf. It’s a sport that enhances women’s lives on a personal and professional level.”

First Tee-Greater Pasadena is now in its 15th year of positive youth development, impacting the lives of young people by providing educational programs to build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through golf.
