Nay- Course #2 tee off at 8:45 a.m.

“They’re not only great kids, but they’re pretty elite golfers,” Baderian said. “So this is really special for us because again, this is the first time any of our kids ever participated in the city championship and we’re fortunate to have the Brookside Men’s Club sponsor both of these individuals and cover their tournament fees for this weekend.”

The tournament’s “Championship Flight” is open to all ages. The field will be cut to the top 30% and ties after 36 holes, to play the finals on Course #1 Sunday, March 26th.  All entrants must have a verifiable six-month low index of 2.6.  A certification from your home course pro or golf coach is also acceptable.

The “Net Flights” are open to all players 18 or older with a six-month low handicap index ranging from 2.7 to 31.5.  Entrants with higher indexes must play down to a 31.5 low index. The field will be divided into six flights to play over 54 holes. The field will be cut after Saturday rounds to 30% and ties for all flights.  Finals for all Net Flights are to be played on Course #1 Sunday, March 26th.

According to Baderian, proceeds from the Pasadena City Amateur Men’s Golf Championship will support youth development programs of First Tee – Greater Pasadena, a nonprofit which empowers youth ages 5 to 17 through golf.

The Pasadena City Golf Championship started in 1929 and has long been one of Southern California’s most prestigious men’s amateur tournaments. It has been played in several different formats since its founding, including match play, a 72-hole medal play event that ran from Thursday through Sunday

Aside from the city golf championship, First Tee — Greater Pasadena will also host tryouts for the spring session Tournament League on March 24 at 4 p.m. and on March 26 at 12 p.m.

Baderian said they will take a total of 48 kids and will divide them into four different teams. Each team consists of one lead coach as well as 12 players.

“It’s not like a typical U.S. kids golf tournament. Our goal is to try to get our kids ready to play competitive golf,” said Baderian. “They’re learning about the rules and etiquette.”

Mark Fritz, Director of Programming and Development at First Tee – Greater Pasadena said the Tournament League is the competitive component of First Tee — Greater Pasadena’s program and the nonprofit does that in spring, summer and fall.

Each session lasts for eight weeks.
