Former longtime Huntington Hospital President and CEO Stephen Ralph has become the newest member elected to UCLA’s Doheny Eye Institute Board of Directors, the organization announced Thursday.

Ralph, who headed Huntington hospital from 1995 to 2017, was installed after his election to the Board on March 31, the DHI said in a written statement.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Ralph onto the DEI Board,” Chairman Charles T. (Tom) Foscue said. “He comes to us from the esteemed Huntington Hospital where he was a leader at one of the San Gabriel Valley’s most important institutions for over 30 years. We believe that he is a valuable asset who will contribute greatly to accomplishing our goals at DEI.”

The sentiment was mutual, Ralph said.

“I am very pleased to be elected as a member of the board at Doheny Eye Institute, a renowned institution known for its unparalleled advances in vision research and patient care,” he said. “I’ve always resonated with this dedication to excellence. Huntington Hospital has followed a similar path for almost 125 years by providing excellent health care and compassionate service.

“I am honored to take on the distinguished new role of serving on the DEI Board.” he added. “I look forward to collaborating with the leadership teams of the entire Board, valued DEI donors, and Doheny executive leadership.”

DEI has locations in both Los Angeles and Pasadena.

Ralph remains on the Huntington Hospital Board of Directors as President Emeritus and also serves on the boards of the Pasadena Senior Center and Cancer Support Community Pasadena, according to the DHI.

The DHI has been devoted to treating and researching eye conditions for seven decades.

“From seeking new ways to free blockages that prevent fluid drainage in glaucoma, to replacing retinal cells in age-related macular degeneration, to providing colleagues worldwide with standardized analyses of anatomical changes in the eyes of patients, Doheny clinician-scientists and researchers are changing how people see — and also how they think about the future of vision,” the statement said.

More information is available on the Doheny Eye Institute’s website.
