Former PCC Volleyball MVP Estrada to Play at Whittier College

Jennifer Estrada, the South Coast Conference Co-Most Valuable Player from the 2012 Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team, recently signed an academic scholarship to attend and continue her playing career at Whittier College.

Estrada was PCC’s libero for the Lancers and set a school record for digs in one season with 348, a 3.95 average per set. She helped the Lancers win a share of the SCC title with El Camino as PCC ended the year as the No. 7-ranked team in the state. Pasadena reached the Southern California Regional finals round.

In being named the conference MVP, The 2-year letterman became the first player in SCC history to win the award while playing the specialized defensive position libero.

Estrada will play for a NCAA Division III Poets program that is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). Whittier’s head coach is Chris Duarte-McDermott, who was an assistant coach at PCC in the 2011 season and helped guide Estrada as a freshman.

Estrada played for then PCC head coach Tammy Silva.  Estrada praised Silva’s guidance as coach.

“She really pushed me to become a better defensive player,” Estrada said. “I was an outside hitter in high school, and I was able to transition to libero by working hard in practices. She believed in me.”
