Former Vice President of Pasadena-based Hows Markets Dies of Cancer; 58

Pasadena-based Hows Markets’ former Vice President Jean Linda Dreshner of Porter Ranch died Wednesday, September 18 after a long battle with Lymphoma Cancer. She was 58.

Dreshner was born of late Vincent and Madeline Dreshner on November 25, 1954 and was raised in the greater Los Angeles area, according to an obituary posted by Rose Family Funeral Home and Cremation.

She was a prominent figure in the Retail Grocery Industry and a long-time member of the California Deli Council. Dreshner was also instrumental in the creation of the City of Hope and other fund raising events, according to the Rose Funeral.

Dreshner started her profession by working at the Los Angeles Board of Education, but later changed career track by working a part time position in Hughes Family Markets as a bakery clerk. She worked her way into becoming Deli and Dairy’s Director of Bakery while holding her position with Ralph’s markets, the funeral’s obituary stated.

Dreshner worked as the Vice President of Hows Markets for 12 years. She recently celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with her husband, Bob Hernandez.

“She was dedicated, loyal, passionate and worked tirelessly in her profession,” according to the obituary. “Jeannie was intelligent, devoted, humorous and had a bright, beautiful smile that was contagious to everyone around her.

Dreshner is survived by her son Gregory Hernandez; siblings Jan Hornstein, Vivian Hopkins, Susie Warrington, and Bill and Vince Dreshner; nieces Nicole Deter, Candice, Lynda, Charlene Hopkins, Madison Dreshner, nephew Mitchell White; great niece Ava; and great nephews Wyatt, Oliver and Abbott. She will also be missed by her mentor and partner Dave Wolff of Hows Markets, Irene Graves, Sue Bargsten, Patti Winsell and her other friends and colleagues.

A funeral service for Dreshner was held at the Oakwood Cemetery chapel on Tuesday, September 24 a 10:00 a.m.
