Friendship Baptist Church: Family Promise

Friendship Baptist Church is proud to partner with: Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley – “Helping Families Stay Together Through Hard Times”

Providing services for homeless families as part of the Family Promise host congregation network. This entails organizing activities such as fundraising, recruiting other congregations, etc,; hosting in the church 5 families, or no more than 15 people, overnight for one week each quarter. Feeding them dinner and breakfast and preparing a sack lunch during that week.

Two volunteer church members stay overnight in the church with the families during that week. Various church volunteers to prepare and serve the food, fellowship with the guests and play with, help with homework, for the children. This is an opportunity for members’ and their families to do mission together (parents and children).

The church will provide help and hospitality for those most in need and fellowship with others as well as its own church member volunteers working together. It will also share the blessings they have been given with those who have need of them.

Anyone can be part of this program. They just need to express an interest in helping homeless families. Attendance at Mission Board meetings is a good start, but also joining one of the Family Promise Organizing committees would really be a blessing. The church believes that in order to carry out this ministry, the following is pertinent: leadership, prayer, service, hospitality, writing.

The church needs people who can inspire other congregations to join them, people who can plan and organize fundraising, people who will continue to pray for all who are homeless, and for the program to be successful in accomplishing their goals; people to welcome and fellowship with their families once the program opens, and those who can plan meals, shop and cook; people with an energy and commitment to serve God’s people when they are in need.
