Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena announced the release of “The New Testament in Color,” a groundbreaking one-volume commentary featuring insights from a diverse group of scholars. The work challenges the dominance of single cultural perspectives in biblical studies.

According to coeditor Janette H. Ok, the commentary reflects the belief that “God’s covenantal and incarnational nature as God in Christ is revealed in color—that is, in particularity and contextuality.”

Fuller said in a statement that the volume underscores the importance of engaging the entire body of Christ in Scripture interpretation.

David Emmanuel Goatley, Fuller’s President, praised the commentary as a “one-of-a-kind” resource that “illustrates the vibrant variety of God valued at Fuller Theological Seminary.”

He added, “Students of Scripture and preachers of the Gospel will do their better work with this valuable resource.”

Lynn H. Cohick, a professor at Houston Christian University, called the work “informative, prophetic, reflective, and inspiring.” She noted its significant contribution to New Testament studies and its potential to set standards for future commentaries.

Coeditor Esau D. McCaulley explained the book’s genesis, highlighting the need for a commentary that celebrates diverse interpretations of biblical texts.

He said that the Holy Spirit’s work through Scripture is enriched by varied experiences and cultures of believers worldwide, stating, “We need each other to read the Bible well.”

The commentary features contributions from Fuller scholars like Janette H. Ok, an associate professor of New Testament, and Christin J. Fort, an assistant professor of clinical psychology. Their expertise spans biblical theology, psychology, and cultural studies.

Published by IVP Academic, the 808-page hardcover volume is now available for $60, with ISBN 978-0-8308-1409-1. It aims to provide fresh, insightful perspectives on the New Testament from scholars of various ethnic backgrounds.

Fuller Seminary was founded in 1947 by Charles E. Fuller and Harold Ockenga and opened in Pasadena that year. Today it has about 2,300 students enrolled. The seminary has over 100 regular and senior faculty members, supplemented by adjunct and affiliate faculty.

Fuller describes itself as a global ecclesial, evangelical, ecumenical, and egalitarian Christian institution, committed to diverse perspectives in theological education.
