[Updated 5:52 p.m.]  An afternoon roof fire struck the popular Gale’s Restaurant in the 400 block of South Fair Oaks Avenue at 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, authorities said.

The business will be reopened tomorrow, after the Gas Company restores service, the Pasadena Fire Dept. reports.

Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian said that roofers apparently were at work atop the building at the time the fire broke out.

Afternoon traffic was snarled as emergency crews from the Pasadena Fire Department, the Pasadena Health Department, Pasadena Water and Power, and Southern California Gas Company worked to extinguish the blaze and assess the damage.

The Pasadena Police Dept. provided traffic control.

Derderian said there were no injuries reported.  Damage was slight and was estimated to be about $7,000 in total.
