Gang Shooting Suspect Released On Bond

An 18-year-old Pasadena man accused of a possible gang-related drive-by shooting in Altadena has been released on a $50,000 bond, court records show.

Dalonte Andrews is set to be arraigned on Aug. 6 for charges in connection to the Friday shooting of another teenager in Altadena, according to Los Angeles Superior court records. Andrews and another man, Terence Bonds, also 18 and from Pasadena, are both accused of assault with a deadly weapon and auto theft.

Formal charges had not been filed against either man as of Tuesday morning. Bonds was scheduled to have his first court appearance sometime Tuesday, according to court records. He is on parole for burglary and is currently being held without bond.

The victim was shot in the buttocks on Lincoln Avenue in Altadena and released from the hospital the day of the shooting, according to a report in the newspaper USA Today. As of Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials had not responded to requests for comment. However, USA Today classified the shooting as gang-related.

In response to the shooting and the May 29 murder of David Crosby Jr., the Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations and the coalition Pasadena-Altadena Vision 20/20 held a Monday press conference urging people to work harder toward ending gang and other racialized violence in the Pasadena area. Pasadena City Councilwoman Jacque Robinson is an integral part of the Pasadena-Altadena Vision 20/20 effort, which was formed in 2007 in response to a spike of gang-related violence in the region.

Pasadena Police Chief Bernard Melekian was aware of the press conference, he said in an e-mail interview Monday, but did not attend.

“The recent violence is a continuation of a cycle that results when some people go to prison and others get out,” Melekian said.

Even though the most recent gang-related incident happened in Altadena, such violence is still a major concern in Pasadena, Melekian noted.

“Reducing violence, particularly gang violence, has been our number one priority for over 12 years,” Melekian said. “It was, and remains, an issue of significant concern.”

It is also important to remember gang activity can cross city lines, Melekian noted.
