Girl Scout Builds 50 Emergency Supply Kits for Pasadena School

A Girl Scout has outfitted Marshall Fundamental School in Pasadena with 50 emergency supply kits as part of a project to earn the Girl Scouts’ highest award.

Christina Hanna, 18, of Pasadena is working toward her Gold Award with Troop 15211 of the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles. And as a Marshall graduate, herself, she knew she wanted to do something to give back to the school.

“I was talking to some of the parents and they were talking about first aid kits that they have at Marshall, but they were saying, ‘We wish we could expand on it,’” she said. “And I was like: ‘Oh, I could do that.’”

So thorough proceeds from cookies, nuts and magazines, as well as some donations from the community, Hanna set out to fill 50 buckets with supplies to be kept in classrooms at the school.

“What these buckets include are supplies such as emergency blankets, whistles, flashlights, edible items, et cetera,” Hanna said.

Hanna led a team and enlisted the help of the school nurse at Marshall, who approved the items included in the kits, she explained.

The project is intended to remain a permanent fixture of the classrooms, with items replenished or replaced over time, Hanna said.

“These will help ensure that Marshall students and staff will be prepared in case of an unexpected emergency,” she said.
