According to the latest update from the County Registrar’s office, District 5 Councilman Victor Gordo has opened up an almost 5,000 vote lead over Mayor Terry Tornek.

Gordo now has 54.7 percent of the vote according to numbers released on Wednesday.  Gordo now has 30,659 votes and Tornek has 25,799 votes or 45.7 percent of the vote.

Gordo thanked his supporters on Wednesday.

“I’m incredibly humbled and honored by these initial results. I first want to give an enormous thank you to the hundreds of volunteers and contributors who worked tirelessly on my campaign over the past two years to help create a better Pasadena for everyone.

This election was never about one person – it was about the people of Pasadena. The voters wanted change – and to take the city in a new direction. I am excited to work together with Pasadena residents and with my colleagues on the city council to move our city forward during this challenging time. Importantly though, every vote counts and we look forward to ensuring that every vote is counted.”

Two local ballot initiatives, Measure O and Measure P, also passed. Measure O, a $516,300,000 school bond, was overwhelmingly approved by voters.

All told, 3,186,572 ballots were processed and counted, with 55.81 percent of eligible registered voters casting ballots.

“After Election Day there are still many outstanding ballots to be counted,” said spokesperson Mark Sanchez in a statement.

“During our Official Election Canvass, all Conditional Voter Registration ballots, Provisional ballots, and Vote by Mail ballots received on Election Day are processed. Once the ballots are verified, they will be counted,” Sanchez said.

It was not immediately known how many votes are outstanding in local races.
