Thanksgiving packages were distributed to more than 100 families last week near the La Pintoresca Teen Education Center, compliments of Pasadena Vice Mayor Tyron Hampton and the group Miracle on 1st Street.
The event held Friday featured Hampton, a La Pintoresca representative dressed as “Mr. Turkey,” and other volunteers distributing reusable bags filled with turkeys and Ralph’s gift cards so recipients could purchase their own dinner side dishes.
Families living near La Pintoresca park and other local community members were recipients of the drive-up holiday giveaway.
Volunteers with the event near the La Pintoresca Teen Education Center also included SGV Noble and Titan Disposal.
Hampton greeted dozens of cars lined up in the southbound lane of North Raymond Avenue to receive their packages.
All volunteers wore masks, face shields, and practiced social distancing protocols.
“With everything going on in the world, it feels great to play a small part in spreading some holiday memories and assistance,” said Hampton. “The afternoon turned out to be a great success and reflective of the spirit of Pasadena.”
Miracle on 1st Street, a holiday assistance program dedicated to helping families during Thanksgiving and Christmas, also delivered 50 turkeys to Pasadena seniors with the help of volunteers. The group’s efforts have been recently extended to year-round.
