Pasadenans were urged to prepare for a heatwave this weekend as temperatures are predicted to steadily increase through the week, approaching triple-digits on Friday before beginning to taper down, forecasters said.
High temperatures were expected to reach 92 degrees by Wednesday, then 95 degrees by Thursday before peaking at 99 degrees on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The heat was expected to begin backing down Saturday, with a high temperature of 96 degrees predicted in the Pasadena area.
“Near normal conditions” were predicted through Wednesday, according to a statement from the NWS’s Oxnard office. “ Building high pressure aloft and locally breezy northwest winds will result in (a) warm and dry condition Thursday through early next week.”
Sensitive populations should be cautious of heat-related illness, according to the NWS. The hot and dry weather will also bring elevated fire danger.
Some valleys were expected to see temperatures of 103 degrees on Friday. The Antelope Valley was expected to see a high temperature of 106 degrees.
Officials urged the public to drink plenty of water, stay in the shade or use air conditioning when available, dress properly for hot weather and be sure to check on vulnerable people, such as the elderly, and pets.
