If you have information on the shooting of 13-year Iran Moreno-Balvaneda, or any other local shooting, you can report it anonymously.

Moreno-Balvaneda was fatally wounded just after 6 p.m. on Saturday night after gunshots rang out on North Raymond Avenue where he was playing video games in his home.

Police say he was not the intended target of the shooting.

To report information on the shooting anonymously, call Crime Stoppers (800) 222-TIPS (8477), use your smartphone by downloading the “P3 Tips” Mobile APP on Google play or the Apple App Store or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.

At a press conference on Monday, local officials called on the public for help in solving the boy’s murder and curbing gun violence.

“No one in this city has the right to say to young people in our community, that you have to stay home, that you can’t go out into the park and into the community,” said Mayor Victor Gordo. “All of those people should face the consequences of the law. All of those people should face the consequences of being outside of the law.”

Monday’s press conference was attended by Gordo, Vice Mayor Andy Wilson, Deputy Police Chief Cheryl Moody and Councilmembers John Kennedy, Felicia Williams and Jess Rivas.

“Turn yourself in,” said Councilmember John Kennedy. “To anyone who was with him, turn yourself in. To anyone who knows who he is, turn him in. It does not matter if this man, presumably a man is black, brown or white. It does not matter if he is in a gang, or a lone wolf. It does matter if he is young or old, turn him in. As diverse peoples in diverse communities, we must stand up and stand together. Justice must be done. It is up to us to speak out and not remain silent. If you know something, say something. Turn him in and end this madness.”

Rivas called the situation “every parent’s nightmare.”

“Those involved have to speak up, and turn those responsible in,” Rivas said.

According to Moody the police are gathering intelligence on the shooting.

“We’re working with different members of different entities to gather more gang intelligence, to see what specifically is going on. But again, we need the community’s help. We need them to come forward. Those who know anything, come forward and help us figure out what’s going on.”
