Construction on phase two of Pasadena’s new Heritage Square South project at Fair Oaks and Orange Grove is in the works, and developers hope to kickstart the hiring process with a meet and greet job fair this Wednesday.

The meet and greet hiring event will take place September 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1207 East Green Street, Pasadena. Those who can’t attend in person can still apply.

“We’re bringing in the subcontractors who are going to be working to build this 70-unit building to the community,” said local hiring consultant Ron Carter.

“And we’re bringing them together with community members who we’ve invited to come out and meet, to see if there are potential job opportunities,” he said. “Individuals who are electricians, plumbers, graders, just anything that you can think of who would help construct a building such as the one that’s going to be going up there at the corner of those two important streets in Pasadena, are welcome.”

Carter added that the project developer, Bridge Housing Corporation,  “is very supportive of what we’re doing,” as is the general contractor RD Olson.

“They are 100% on board with what we’re doing,” he said. “So we’re very happy where we have both the developer and the general contractor involved with what we’re doing in supporting it 100%.”

According to Carter, the local hiring event is seeking workers with construction experience in construction or related fields.

Among the requirements are an ability to perform manual labor, and ability to work independently and in a team. All applicants must have Right to Work documents and must be a resident within the cities of Pasadena or Altadena.

Applicants should bring resumes as they will be interviewed at the event, said Carter. But he added, “If you don’t have a resume, then just come prepared to answer questions and talk about who you are and what you’ve done.”

“We have a great starting salary, “ Carter emphasized, “So we’re hoping to have a lot of people, so that some of them will be hired.

As Carter noted enthusiastically, “Some, as I said, might be hired right away in the next week.

“We are about to dig and go in the ground,” said Carter. “So obviously, we’re going to need plumbers, we’re going to need electricians, we’re going to need people who can erect elevators … those kinds people are going to get work right away. So, that’s what we’re looking to do.”

The event will be held at 1207 East Green Street in Pasadena. For more information call (626) 345-1413, or email Alma Estevez at aestevez@foothilletc.org, or click here.
