Human Resources Expert to Teach Business Leaders How to Hire the Best

Human resources expert Diana Peterson-More said business owners and leaders need to know how to compete for the best talents as they struggle in increasingly complex and competitive marketplaces in the 20th century.

Peterson-More will hold a presentation on how to get the best employees through skill and competency-based hiring, during the University Club of Pasadena’s Business Growth Workshop on Friday, March 28, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m.

Organizers said skill or competency-based hiring increases productivity by placing the proper individuals in roles in which they can thrive. Peterson-More’s presentation titled “The Unusual Suspects: Hiring the Right Person for the Job: Skill & Competency Based Hiring” will cover the following topics:

1. Defining Mission-Driven Goals
2. Determining the Skills and Competencies Needed to Complete Goals
3. How to Conduct Skill-Based Interviews
4. Auditing the Current Team: Which Skill Sets Exist and Which are Missing
5. Rounding up the Unusual Suspects
6. Complementing the Team by Hiring from Outside the Organization.

Peterson-More is the president of Organizational Effectiveness Group, which conducts organizational development, executive coaching, feedback assessment and leadership training for businesses and organizations.

She headed for three years the human resources department of The Times Mirror Company. spearheading a company-wide human resources re-engineering project and a separate nationwide diversity task force, implemented a cutting-edge competency-based pay and performance management system and oversaw the standardization of Times Mirror’s benefit programs that covered over 25,000 employees and their dependents.

Peterson-More also spent 12 years with the Southern California Edison Company and SCEcorp, where she served as a labor lawyer, a human resources manager and a health care executive, prior to being elected Corporate Secretary in 1989. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from UCLA and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School.
