Hunt Ortmann, a California law firm that has long focused on construction law and related litigation, has elevated Aaron J. Flores to shareholder in its Construction Disputes & Litigation practice and added Sander Alvarez to its Insurance practice.
“Aaron’s elevation is well deserved and demonstrates our firmwide commitment to mentoring and growing our attorneys,” said Omel Nieves, a senior shareholder and the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. “His unique skillset and vast resume enhance our position as a leading legal services provider within the construction industry. Aaron routinely exceeds client expectations and obtains favorable results through his dedication and steadfast diligence. We are delighted for him to take on a larger leadership role.”
Flores has been involved in the construction industry for more than two decades, representing businesses and public agencies across all industry sectors, including heavy industrial, transportation, infrastructure, architectural and engineering, commercial, retail and residential. He has handled disputes in excess of $32M involving regulatory and licensing compliance, public and private bidding, construction contracts, change orders, claims, scheduling and construction defects. Flores received his J.D. from Trinity Law School, where he was the Associated Student Body President, and his B.A. from California Baptist University.
Joining the firm from Aiwasian & Associates, Alvarez focuses on insurance litigation and appeals involving all types of first- and third-party insurance policies, including commercial general liability, products liability, D&O and E&O, environmental pollution liability and cyber liability, among others. He counsels clients on general tort litigation matters and has particular expertise in the areas of environmental coverage litigation, including suits for declaratory relief, breach of contract, equitable contribution between insurers and bad faith defense. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from Amherst College.
“In delivering on the full spectrum of our clients’ needs, we actively pursued Sander to strengthen our already robust Insurance practice,” said JoLynn Scharrer, a shareholder and the firm’s Insurance practice group leader. “His proven track record handling complex claims-related issues, both in private practice and as in-house counsel for insurers, will allow our group to expand its representation of clients in first-party D&O, E&O and cyber liability matters.”
Based in Pasadena, Hunt Ortmann is one of the foremost authorities on California construction law, contracts, dispute resolution and litigation. In addition, the firm offers a host of complementary legal and business services aimed at assisting clients with employment and labor counseling, insurance, real estate and other commercial issues.
