Huntington Hospital Suspends In-Person Visits Amid Pandemic Surge

Huntington Hospital in Pasadena announced Wednesday that it has once again closed for in-person visitation, allowing only virtual visits with patients, in response to surging transmission of COVID-19 throughout the region and nationwide.

The hospital had placed a similar restriction in place at the outset of the pandemic in March.

“This decision was based on Huntington’s risk-scoring matrix, which considers community infection rates and more,” hospital representatives said in a written statement. “After carefully reviewing this matrix, combined with the current trends we are seeing in Los Angeles County and throughout the country, we are making appropriate updates to our visitor policy to support the well-being and safety of our patients and caregivers.”

Exceptions to the visitation ban will include patients at the end of life, one healthy parent at a time for pediatric and neonatal intensive care unit patients; as well as one healthy birth partner and one certified doula for labor, delivery, postpartum and recovery units,” according to Huntington Hospital.

Single healthy visitors may drop off and pick up all patients having procedures, provided that they leave the campus once the patient has arrived in the admitting area of the main lobby. Family members will be contacted with instructions on how to pick patients up.

One health visitor may accompany a patient for the statement said. “The only exception to this is that one healthy parent of a patient under the age of 18 will be allowed back into the care area with their child.”

The hospital reported treating 35 COVID-19 patients on Wednesday.
