Pasadena City College’s current Superintendent/President Dr. Erika Endrijonas will be leaving on July 31 to begin service as Superintendent/President at Santa Barbara City College on August 1, according to a statement issued jointly late Friday by Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees and Dr. Erika Endrijonas.

The statement said Dr.Endrijonas “would like to thank the staff, administrators, faculty, and the Board of Trustees for their hard work and support during her four and half years at Pasadena City College.”

The Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees said it wished to thank Dr. Endrijonas for her service to the college.

“We wish her success in returning to her former institution to serve as the Superintendent/President of Santa Barbara City College.”

The statement also listed a number of positive contributions it said Endrijonas had successfully accomplished during her tenure. There was no hint or reference to the rancor that enveloped the campus in recent months.

On May 8, the Santa Barbara Community College District Board of Trustees announced they had selected Dr. Endrijonas as their next Superintendent/President of SBCC. A PCC spokesperson confirmed a short while later that Dr. Endrojitas had accepted the offer.

That same day, Dr. Endrijonas told Pasadena Now that it had been her goal since she had left SBCC to return someday.

“It is where I started my community college career. I am thrilled to render service in a place I love.”

Dr. Endrijonas served as SBCC’s Dean of Education Programs from 2000 to 2009.

On May 26 the Board of Trustees discussed the selection process for the next Superintendent/President at a special Board meeting.

The selection process involves appointing an ad hoc committee, seeking community input, and approving the job description. The Board may use a consultant or search firm, with a screening committee of 27 individuals representing the campus and wider community?.

Brice Harris, former California Community Colleges Chancellor, advised the Board to find a candidate who aligns with the college’s needs. He suggested announcing a vacancy in August 2023, appointing an interim Superintendent/President, and conducting a thorough search that could last up to a year?.

The Board can select a search firm by October and approve the job description by November. If adhering to the timeline, the new Superintendent/President would assume office between May and July 2024?.

The Board expressed interest in hiring an interim leader who is active, experienced with shared governance and student success metrics, and skilled in communication and consensus-building?.
