One of many significant changes to American life resulting from the pandemic has been the rapid recent rise of the use of telehealth services.

This morning at 10 a.m., a free Zoom program hosted by the Pasadena Senior Center will feature a family physician explaining what you need to know about the many advantages and benefits of getting your health care by telemedicine.

First of all, Dr. Brett White, FAAFP told Pasadena Now, telemedicine is for everyone regardless of age — but it offers special advantages for seniors because they can get healthcare without leaving home.

“I’m going to be reviewing the broad range of various telehealth services that individuals can use and how they may be able to maximize these services depending upon their own individual health conditions and specific circumstances. I’m going to be reviewing items like phone appointments, video visits, E-visits, as well as wellness apps,” White said.

According to White, the care you receive can be the same high-quality care you’d receive in person.

“We’ve gained great awareness and expertise in managing everything from acute conditions to chronic conditions in our members of the community,” White said.

In fact, in some cases, the outcomes can be improved for patients using telehealth.

“Healthcare outcomes can actually be improved utilizing telehealth services,” White said. “And I’m going to emphasize a few areas that we have really gained expertise and are very proud of with Kaiser Permanente, specifically relating to the benefits of telehealth in cardiac care, which is care for patients who have heart conditions, as well as individuals who have strokes, as well as individuals who have mental health-related issues, areas that we take very seriously.”

White is a family physician at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles and Associate Professor at the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine in Pasadena

The Zoom event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 8. For more information call (626) 795-4331 or click here, where you can receive the Zoom registration.
