Kappa Alpha Psi – Pasadena Chapter Presents is 2020 Class of Kappa Leaguers

Kappa League is the national mentoring program of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. The program is designed to support the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male students in grades 6th-12th. It was designed to help young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor.

The Pasadena Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi is proud to announce the graduation of its 2020 Kappa League class. All 4 young men are college-bound and have been a part of Kappa League for four years. This year’s graduates are Preston Keating who is heading off to Cal State Riverside with a plan to transfer to Howard University when the shelter in place order as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic is over. Toshiki Kizer is headed to Cal State San Fransisco, Hunter Davis will be heading to Texas to attend the HBCU Wiley College and Javier Chavez-Gonzalez is headed to Cal State Poly Pomona. All four young men are graduates of Marshall Fundamental High School in Pasadena.

The mentoring program has been lead by Ed Gorton a member of Kappa Alpha Psi who had this to say about this years graduates. “We met these four young men four years ago as they enrolled in our Kappa League College Prep Cohort, our goal was to provide for these students as part of the class of 2020: free assistance to the college admissions process including SAT/ACT test prep, college application waivers, and free tutoring. In addition, we provided opportunities for community service and a chance to directly impact their own community in Pasadena, but maybe more importantly, our goal was to create and sustain positive relationships with young men of color and mentor them along the way. We could not be more proud of these students who displayed such resiliency throughout their high school careers. I cannot wait to see how they work to impact the world.”

Unfortunately, COVID-19 denied these young men both a full high school graduation ceremony as well as a full Kappa League graduation ceremony but the men of Pasadena Alumni insure that when the opportunity presents itself these men and their families will be honored and celebrated at a level they truly deserve.
