It’s no secret that technology is the future but San Francisco seems to get all the hype. Local tech expert, Scott Perry, the founder of L.A Tech Digest and head of Sperry Media shared his insights on Los Angeles’ technology ecosystem and made some predictions on the future of the industry this morning in Old Pasadena.
The talk, sponsored by Innovate Pasadena and held at Cross Campus invited tech-minded people to meet, greet and collaborate. The room buzzed with entrepreneurs and tech crunchers.
Perry’s talk began by touting impressive tech facts about Los Angeles – not only is it the birthplace of the internet (1969) but it is ranked number one in open data and civic innovation. Best of all, it is filled with venture capitalists, startup incubators and crowdfunding sources.
Perry also highlighted the importance of social media and how it is changing the landscape of product design and publishing. He makes an important point that companies should know their audiences and leverage social media talent like YouTube stars.
“No matter where it’s published, content will come through the same funnel because Facebook owns the world,” he said.
As Perry explained, Los Angeles is bustling with tech companies in every vertical from real estate to fashion. The industry is strong and growing in Los Angeles and may even rival San Francisco some day. The city has traditionally been a test ground for personal services companies like ridesharing.
“It’s all about finding your place in the ecosystem,” he said.
