Among the other helpful and informative classes offered by La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s (LCPC) Parent Education program, is the recently added GRAND-Parenting class. This unique class explores the role of being a grandparent in today’s culture and includes researched current topics, supportive member connection, plentiful fun, and enriching resources.

The class explores the cultural changes that have affected current parenting (technology, school systems, varying parenting styles); working with “adult children” to support them in their chosen parenting style; building unique traditions and rituals with grandchildren; sharing personal history; and bequeathing memories, sacred connection, and deep acceptance to grandchildren.

The class offers a plethora of resources, including a notebook, to enhance time spent with grandchildren- easy crafts, age-appropriate books and games, local parks and nature walks, child friendly attractions, and seasonal books, activities, and recipes. Director Anne Bierling stated, “Jan has done such an amazing job of creating an emerging curriculum to empower Grandparents who are the driving force of our society.”

Beginning her 29th year as a Parent Ed instructor, Jan Roberts will welcome grandparents with any age grandchild, with grandchildren living nearby or far away, to share in the joys and challenges of grandparenting. Come learn how to create memories, pass on values, and leave a lasting legacy. Jan is mom of 3 adult daughters and Grammy to 7 grandchildren.

This fall, Parent Education classes return in-person Sept 14-17, 2021–and will meet weekly September through May, attracting parents and children within a 30-mile radius. Additionally, Parent Ed has added a weekly virtual class for those afar! To learn more about classes or to register, go to www.lacanadapc.org/parented. Scholarships and payment plans are available online. La Canada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill in La Canada and follows Covid safe protocol.
