La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s Parent Education Program (LCPC Parent Ed) kicked off its 44th year with classes beginning September 13th – 16th with ongoing registration. The program continues its legacy of providing quality educational classes run by reputable staff for parents of children from newborns to college-age students – in addition to offering a popular class for grandparents already in its 4th year! This year, 18 daytime classes and a growing slate of evening classes will be offered, including new classes for Parents of College Students and a class on Spiritual Parenting. Most classes run weekly from September through May, except Express Classes which run in 4 week segments. In addition to participating in our day classes, dads can also enjoy the Art of Fatherhood, which will meet on Wednesday nights in October in the backyard of Pastor Chuck Osburn’s home. Dinner will be included and the dads will be going through the book How We Love by Milan & Kay Yerkovich, led by Ron Chiu.

In preparation for the new year, a Welcome Tea for all Staff, Board, and Ministry Support Team (MST) members was held on September 1st at the Home of Daniela Kim. This year’s LCPC Parent Ed team includes respected staff members Anne Bierling (Director), Amanda Baughman, Nanette Brown, Teresa Chiu, Paula Giboney, Jennifer Gordon, Heather Ehrhardt, Daniela Kim, Jenn Kliewer, Cathy Lukesh, Ellen Mackle, Sarah Montes, Vicki Rekedal, Katy Riddell, Jan Roberts, Sandy Lee Schaupp, Cheryl Tichon, Tracy Tobias, Jana Van Dyck, and Sloan Walsh. The team is supported by dedicated Board volunteers Katrina Harbers (Board Chair), Elizabeth Angiuli, Ashley Barrett, Erin Brown, Stephanie Ferguson, Lauren Gallidoro, Anne Hewett, Natalie Hubbard, Carrie Kingston, Charlotte Miller, Meredith Min, Sarah New, Amber Gerhardt-Serrano, and Monica Skeehan – as well as the MST made up of Lynne Graves (Chair), Debbie Barsom, Melanie Frey, Katrina Harbers, Kathy Kovalcik, and Monica Skeehan.

In entering their 44th year of helping families thrive, LCPC Parent Ed is thrilled by the lasting foundations they have built and the positive impact on the community they serve. Last year they worked with over 600 participants from 22 different cities. Their classes are an opportunity for parents and grandparents to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s developmental state, how to best guide them, and ways to stay connected and self-regulated. The daytime Parent-and-Child classes are especially inviting for new parents, where both children and adults can attend and long-lasting relationships are often formed. Parent-and-Child classes include Babies, Spring Infants, Non-Separating Toddlers, Two-Year Olds, 3-4 Year Olds, and Family Class. Parents with school-aged children attend Parent-Only Classes. Parent-Only classes include Parents of Elementary Kids, Parents of Tweens, Parents of High Schoolers, Whole-Brain Parenting (online only), Parenting through Learning Differences, Spiritual Parenting, Parenting College Freshman, Parenting College Sophomores, Parenting College Juniors and Seniors, and Grand-Parenting.
