A Pasadena organization was the recipient of a gift from the La Cañada Presbyterian Church’s (LCPC’s) Parent Education Program. LCPC’s Volunteer Board donated 10% of its anniversary fundraising proceeds, $4,619 in total, to Door of Hope, a local non-profit organization serving homeless families. Parent Education Board Chair Maggie Mason represented the Board during a tour of Door of Hope saying, “Our Parent Ed Board is excited and humbled to be able to support such a wonderful organization that is serving our homeless brothers and sisters.” Anne Bierling, Director of Parent Education, said: “It was our honor to support Door of Hope and their mission to support families in need. Their organization is so well managed and effective in helping families recover from homelessness. The personal stories of recovery are amazing.”

Since 1985, Door of Hope has helped end homelessness for nearly 700 families, and 83% have not experienced homelessness again. Because 80% of women and children who are homeless have also experienced domestic violence, one of three of Door of Hope’s sites has been dedicated exclusively to helping families heal from domestic violence while equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in permanent housing. In recent years there has been an increased demand for their domestic violence and homelessness site according to Executive Director, Rev. Megan Katerjian. To address this growing need, a second Door of Hope site was converted to exclusively serve those experiencing homelessness and domestic violence. Parent Education’s donation will be used to help with the financial needs of converting this home, for trauma-informed trainings for Door of Hope staff, and for safety and security upgrades. Door of Hope is a ministry partner of La Canada Presbyterian Church and Parent Education is honored to support their work in the community with this donation. If you wish to support this organization, a list of their in-kind needs can be found on their website at www.doorofhope.us/donate.

Parent Ed will begin its 41st year in September. If you have a child between 0-18 years old, we have a class for you! In addition to our 16 daytime classes, Parent Ed will also offer a growing number of evening Parent Express classes in the fall. To find class listings, staff bios, registration information and more, please go to our website at www.lacanadapc.org/parented. Scholarships and payment plans are available. Affordable childcare is offered during all class times. La Cañada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill in La Cañada.
