Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is set to engage with the Pasadena community in a meet and greet event at Pasadena City College tonight. The gathering, scheduled for August 7 at 6:30 p.m., will take place in the college’s Creveling Lounge at 1570 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91106.
Organized by Brandon D. Lamar and community partners, the event provides an opportunity for attendees to interact directly with Gascón.
Participants will have the chance to hear about his vision for justice and community safety, as well as discuss various initiatives and future plans.
Gascón, who took office on December 7, 2020, has been a prominent figure in progressive criminal justice reform. His tenure has been marked by significant policy changes, including ending the death penalty, eliminating cash bail for certain offenses, and ceasing to charge children as adults.
The District Attorney’s office has also addressed past injustices. Nearly 60,000 cannabis convictions have been identified as eligible for dismissal under Gascón’s leadership, reflecting a shift in the approach to drug-related offenses.
Gascón’s background includes service in various law enforcement roles. Born in Cuba, he immigrated to the United States at age 13 and later joined the U.S. Army. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from California State University, Long Beach, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Western State University, College of Law.
Gascón has also worked to hold law enforcement officers accountable for misconduct and ensure transparency in cases where they are witnesses.
