Laemmle Theaters announced Friday that it plans to reopen six Los Angeles County locations, including one in Pasadena, on April 9.
The theaters expected to reopen reportedly also include Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Santa Monica, Claremont and Laemmle’s new theater in Santa Clarita.
“Now that L.A. County’s health department has announced we have left the purple tier and entered the red, we are thrilled to announce that we will reopen on April 9, 2021 at 25% capacity,” the company said in a written statement. “If the County is in the orange tier at that time, we’ll go with 50% capacity,” the statement said.
“Our veteran general managers have returned, like cavalry coming over the hill, to ready our theaters and make sure the reopening will be safe, the statement added.
Laemmle Theaters President Greg Laemmle thanked patrons for their support through the pandemic, adding that at the outset of the pandemic, he didn’t think the company could survive more than a few months of closure.
“ We’ve received support from government stimulus programs, and more importantly from you, our patrons, through your gift and Premiere Card purchases, and your rentals on Laemmle Virtual Cinema.
“Even so, some difficult decisions had to be made,” Laemmle said.
The company has sold two properties, including its Pasadena location, and leased back the space.
“…and we may have to sell more to shore up our finances,” Laemmle said. “But to be clear, the plan is to reopen as a tenant and maintain operations as a movie theatre, even where we no longer own the property.”
Online film rentals through the theater company’s Laemmle Virtual Cinema were to continue, representatives said.
The company said it planned to post updates as they become available online at laemmle.com/reopening.
