Lake Avenue Church: Crafts for a Cause Supporting LAC’s Ministry to Women Globally

Crafts for a Cause is a volunteer initiative that embraces the vision of Lake Avenue Church’s Global Outreach Department to see God worshipped throughout the earth and the critical role played by focused, holistic and transformational outreach in seeing this vision become reality. Toward that end, Crafts for a Cause is strategically partnered with Global Outreach to bless LAC’s ministries that benefit women globally, with specific emphasis on the women of Cambodia. There 60% of the population live on less than $2 per day, and rural female illiteracy is near 50%. In partnership with World Relief Cambodia, proceeds from Crafts for a Cause provides funding for basic health education for women, micro loans and coaching to provide economic opportunity and HIV/AIDs education and Care Groups.

It all started with a simple idea: investing in new life, by bringing new life to once used greeting cards! And so ministry team members began collecting previously used greeting cards which are then “up-cycled” into attractive new cards. Over the years, it also began to find other hand-made craft items being made and contributed, things like knit caps and scarves.

From the vision of one family, a volunteer ministry team was born. And it grew and it grew so more! And a community was born, gathering together, adding in new participants as they gathered weekly to creatively impact those living on the world’s margins in the name of Christ and for the sake of the gospel.

Participate! Meet other LACers and together spend an afternoon re-creating cards and giving them a second life! Or join in with one of the other craft projects that team members are creating. Become a Patron! Cards and Crafts may be purchased on the plaza of Lake Avenue Church on most Sunday mornings. Special orders are welcomed for Invitations, Announcements, Weddings, etc.
