Brandon Lamar qualified for appointment to the District 3 seat at the 11th hour on Thursday.

According to the City Clerk’s website, Lamar turned in his papers on Thursday afternoon, just hours ahead of the deadline to file.

A third candidate, Luz Marina Miranda did not file her paperwork by the deadline.

Lamar and Incumbent Justin Jones will be interviewed by the City Council later this month.

After each man makes his presentation to the City Council, the council will vote to appoint one of them to the District 3 seat left vacant by the death of John Kennedy.
Kennedy defeated Lamar in the June Primary and was scheduled to be sworn in for another term on Dec. 12.

Kennedy died in July leaving two vacancies, his current term and the one he won in the June Primary.

In September, the council appointed Jones to the City Council.

The City Council is scheduled to hold a special meeting after Dec. 12 after a new City Council is sworn in.

Jess Rivas will take the oath for a second term in District 5 seat, and Jason Lyon will take over duties in District 7.

Vice Mayor Andy Wilson did not seek reelection in District 7.
