Latest Vote Tallies: Lead in School Board Races Unchanged

In local school board races, Board President Patrick Cahalan and Tina Wu Fredericks inched closer to victories in PUSD Board Districts 4 and 6, respectively on Wednesday after new vote tallies came in.

Jennifer Hall Lee continues to lead in District 2 with 5,824 votes. Attorney Wayne Hammack and Realtor Mike Crowley were trailing with 3,493 and 3,369 votes respectively.

Hall Lee declared victory on Tuesday after the first results were reported.

In District 4, incumbent Cahalan maintained a commanding lead on Wednesday. Cahalan had won 5,476, with Harden garnering 2,951 votes.

Wu Fredericks led the District 6 contest with 4,307 votes. Priscilla Hernandez came in second with 3,221 votes, and Crystal Czubernat came in third place with 2,995 of the ballots cast. Milena Albert came in fourth place with 980 votes.

“The hard work and persistence we put into this year-long campaign has paid off as demonstrated in our significant lead in votes,” said Fredericks. “I am grateful to everyone who voted for me and supported our campaign. I look forward to the final count and can’t wait to get to work on behalf of the students, teachers, and the entire PUSD community.”

The PUSD School race is a plurality vote, with the candidate garnering the most total votes winning. A 50 perfect plus 1 vote majority was not necessary to win.

“After Election Day there are still many outstanding ballots to be counted. During our official election canvass, all conditional voter registration ballots, provisional ballots, and Vote by Mail ballots received on Election Day are processed. Once the ballots are verified, they will be counted.

The LA County Board of Supervisors is tentatively scheduled to declare the election officially concluded on Nov. 19.
