LIVE BLOGGING with Community Editor Eddie Rivera: Dodgers Send Fans Home Unhappy, Lose 4-2

Published on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 | 12:39 pm

Vividly demonstrating their lack of relief pitching, the Dodgers spoiled a solid, if not flashy, performance from new starter Kenta Maeda, with Chris Hatcher giving up a home run, a double, and loading the bases, in a nasty eighth-inning meltdown. Hatcher also gave up a home run to the first batter he faced Friday night in San Francisco, when starter Ross Stipling was pulled in the midst of a no-hitter.

Following the usual raucous and memorable opening day ceremonies which honored Vin Scully, as he begins his last broadcast season, the game was quiet until Corey Seager bunted home Howie Kendrick in the second.

Nick Ahmed homered off Pedro Baez in the seventh, which brought in Hatcher for the eighth. And it was on. For the Diamondbacks.

Goldschmidt homered in to the left field bleachers, followed by Castillo, who hit it to no one in left, for a double.

After Lamb drew an intentional walk, Hatcher walked Tomas.

Louis Coleman struck out Richie Weeks, Jr., but the Dodgers had already exposed their dramatic weakness.

Arizona scored two more in the ninth, but it wasn’t as if they needed to.

They’ll both be back at it again. Put a lock on the bullpen.

Here’s how we blogged it:

It’s the latest opening day of the 2016 Major League baseball season. It’s 72 degrees under a deep blue sky, and the Dodgers are taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kenta Maeda is on the mound for the Blue Ones, and Patrick Corbin (not Bruce Corbin) is pitching for Arizona.
