LIVE BLOGGING WITH EDDIE RIVERA | San Diego Tramples the Dodgers, 7-1, in First Game of Weekend Series

Published on Friday, September 2, 2022 | 10:58 pm

Dodger pitcher Dustin May’s road back just got longer, as pitcher Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres stomped the Dodgers 7-1, at Dodger Stadium Friday night.

May tossed 87 pitches and gave up six earned runs, walked five, hit two batters, two home runs, along with five strikeouts. Darvish, meanwhile, was masterful throughout the game, showing off the promise that the Dodgers saw with him in 2019.

San Diego broke the game open in the third inning when former Dodger and now nemesis Manny Machado homered deep in to the left field bleachers, giving Soto a ride home and silencing the stadium .

Brandon Drury soon followed with a two-run ride of his own, providing the Padres with three more runs than they would eventually need.

Dodger reliever Heath Hembree was having a storybook sixth inning, meanwhile retiring two successive batters on seven pitches when Jurickson Profar sent a fast ball rocketing into the stands, and scoring three.

The Dodgers made a little noise in the bottom of the ninth, when Turner doubled and was brought home with a single from Gallo. It was only a little noise.

The game was the first in a six- game homestand with the first of three games against San Diego. Following the weekend set, the Dodgers will take on the Giants next week from Monday, Sept. 5 through Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Here’s how we blogged it:

Juan Soto (not the world-class flauta) is at 2-1. I meant 3-1. He gets to first on a pitch mishandled by Will Smith.

Boobirds greet former Dodger, now bugaboo, Manny Machado. He is at 2-1. 3-1, as May struggles with the strike zone, per se.
Machado be walking.

Josh Bell. all designated and whatnot, flies out to Max “Don’t call me Steve” Muncy.

Jake Cronenworth looks at a strike. 1-1. May strikes him all the way out.
