Live Blogging with Eddie Rivera | Diamondbacks Embarrass the Dodgers, 5-2

Last place 'Backs play like world beaters; DeGeus earns the victory

Published on Friday, July 9, 2021 | 6:23 pm

In a game that the Dodgers were never really in any danger of winning, the Dodgers blew eight opportunities with runners in scoring position, and left six base runners stranded, while losing the first game of a three-game series to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-2.
Both teams used a fistful of pitchers, and the Dodgers helped their losing cause by stranding runners, a few fielding errors, and an eighth inning that saw three Diamondback runners cross the plate, ably assisted by reliever Edwin Uceta, who walked three batters in that inning.
Starter David Price extricated himself from more than one jam, but was gone after the third inning.
AJ Pollock homered early to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead, but the Dodgers looked unfocused for much of the game, with poor pitching from the staff, assisted by weak hitting.
Here’s how we blogged it.

The Dodgers finished an eight-game road trip (5-3) to Washington, DC by beating the Marlins, 6-1, behind Julio Urías, to avoid an embarrassing four-game sweep from the lowly Marlins (25-34).
Tonight, the Dodgers begin a three-game series with the Arizona Ugly Uniforms this weekend, prior to the All-Star break next week and the end of the 2021 season’s first half. Los Angeles is 7-0 vs. Arizona this season, outscoring the Diamondbacks, 40-17.
The Dodgers are now just 1.0 game behind first place in the NL West and the National League’s best record.
Following the 91st All Star Game on Tuesday and a couple days off, the Doyers will begin the second half with a three-game series at Coors Field in Denver next weekend.
Yesterday, Dodger starter Julio Urías went a career-high 7.0 innings for the fifth time this season, saving the bullpen and picking up his Major League leading 11th win of the season.
Game time is 7:10 p.m., Bobbleheads.
Attendance: 49,215.
