City officials reported six new local COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 2,368 cases since the pandemic began, with a total of 111 deaths.

The new numbers come just days after Gov. Gavin Newsom released new guidelines allowing barbershops and beauty salons to reopen across the state.

So far, city officials have not released a new health order, but city officials continue to work in conjunction with L.A. County.

Doctors at Huntington Hospital are treating 36 patients battling the virus.

“As we evaluate how to best continue our recovery journey without experiencing the spikes we saw in July, we need to consider the magnitude of increased exposures created with each sector re-opening,” Ferrer said.

“Moving forward, especially in a county as large as ours, requires a thoughtful assessment of what measures are in place to protect residents and employees. Whether we are looking at how to best support school children or hair salon operators, we have to move forward responsibly since there is no path to economic recovery without slowing the spread of COVID-19,” she said.

“Not respecting the seriousness of the pandemic only makes it harder to open up more of our county.”
