Tap Systems, a Pasadena-based startup, has introduced an upgraded wearable input device designed to transform how people interact with spatial computing technologies.

The company unveiled the updated TapXR at the Augmented World Expo 2024 in Los Angeles last month. The wrist-worn controller weighs 14 grams and uses patented technology to detect over 35 distinct gestures with 99% accuracy.

“The ability to detect micro gestures is the holy grail for fast, easy, sustainable input,” said Dovid Schick, CEO of Tap Systems and inventor of the device. “With TapXR, we have achieved this.”

The company said TapXR is compatible with smart glasses and virtual reality headsets from major manufacturers, including Meta, Microsoft and Magic Leap. It can also pair with smartphones, laptops and gaming consoles.

Tap Systems launched a software development kit alongside the device, allowing developers to integrate multi-finger gestures into their applications. End-users can also program custom macros and hotkeys.

The device is priced at $199 and available worldwide through the company’s website and Amazon. It comes with two size straps, a magnetic charging cable and four mobile applications.

A free firmware update scheduled for August will activate multi-finger gestures and SDK support for both new and existing customers.

Tap Systems, founded in 2015, said it holds a patent covering the fundamental invention of tapping and the current TapXR technology.
