Police arrested a man Thursday after they say he tried to steal a law enforcement “Thin Blue Line” flag from a pickup truck in Pasadena, then brandished a knife at the truck’s owner when confronted.

The incident unfolded about 3:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of East Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena Police Department police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

A 50-year-old Altadena man noticed that another man was removing the law enforcement memorial flag from his pickup truck, which was parked nearby, the lieutenant said.

When the truck owner confronted the man about the theft, the suspect brandished a knife and threatened the victim with it before fleeing the area on a skateboard, according to Burgess. The victim was not hurt.

Police spotted the suspect at a nearby motel a short time later and took him into custody.

Xavier Demetrius Woods, 23, of Pasadena was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records.

Bail for Woods was set at $30,000 pending his initial court appearance, which was scheduled Monday.
