An Arcadia man confronted by officers after he reportedly removed price tags from merchandise inside a Target store in downtown Pasadena refused to follow their commands, left the store with stolen merchandise and threatened officers with a pair of meat tenderizers when they tried to detain him.
The officers were called to the Target in the 700 block of East Colorado Blvd. at about 7:00 p.m. Monday, authorities said.
“The suspect armed himself with two metal meat tenderizers and raised them towards the officers in a threatening manner,” Lt. Sean Dawkins said. “The officers believing that he was going to harm them, deployed a taser. He was able to run away while still armed.”
Dawkins said the man walked and ran inside and outside of the store while the officers chased him. Ultimately they detained him outside the store.
The suspect, 37-year-old Jeffrey Todd Salter, was transported to a local hospital for a medical check before being booked into the Pasadena City Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, Dawkins and booking records said.
Salter was being held on $50,000 bond at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, online booking records show.
