Police arrested a man who they say stole a handgun from the trunk of a car in Pasadena, then pointed it at the car’s owner when confronted early Tuesday.
The incident unfolded about 1:10 a.m. along Raymond Avenue, near Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.
A passing officer was flagged down by a man in his 20s, he said.
The man relayed he had just caught another man stealing a handgun from the trunk of his car, Dawkins said. When confronted, the suspect pointed the weapon at the victim before running off.
A responding officer spotted the suspect running south along Fair Oaks Avenue and detained him, the lieutenant said. The freshly stolen firearm was found stashed in a trash can near the point where the officer had first spotted the fleeing suspect.
Leon Martin Hollie, described as a 30-year-old transient known to frequent Los Angeles, was arrested on suspicion of crimes including assault with a deadly weapon, according to police and L.A. County booking records.
Bail for Hollie was set at $50,000 pending his initial court appearance, which had yet to be scheduled Tuesday, records show.
