Police said an 82-year-old man died Monday night after he drove his car into a wall of the Macy’s parking structure along South Lake Avenue at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses told officers that the car, a brown Buick, was seen maneuvering strangely before the 8:15 p.m. incident, according to Pasadena police Lt. Rudy Lemos.
Lemos said witnesses saw the car accelerating then slowing and were watching it when the vehicle suddenly speed up and slammed into the east wall of the structure, which is located at 401 South Lake Avenue.
Pasadena Fire dept. Parademics responded and transported the man to the Huntington Hospital, where after two hours he succumbed to either injuries from the collision or a pre-existing medical condition.
Lemos said police traffic investigators have opened an investigation of the collision.
