An autopsy was pending Wednesday to determine whether a 30-year-old man from Oregon found shot to death inside the Eaton Canyon Nature Center in Pasadena was the victim of homicide.

Steven Everett Davenport was found just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday near a hiking trail at the Nature Center located at 1750 N. Altadena Drive, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Wally Braks.

A gun was also located near the scene, Braks said.

Hikers discovered Davenport and told staff members who then called 911, Braks said. Davenport was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was unclear if Davenport, who lived in Roseburg, Oregon, was a victim of a homicide, suicide or an accident.

Anyone with information on this death was asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at 323-890-5500.
