Man Throws Fire Extinguisher at Vehicle, Injuring Two Children

[UPDATED] A man allegedly threw a fire extinguisher at a vehicle in Pasadena, shattering the rear passenger window and injuring two children inside.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at around 2:00 p.m. in the 200 block of Cordova Street. According to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Edgar Sanchez, the victim, a 36-year-old man, was driving westbound on Cordova Street with his two children, an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, when he saw the suspect standing in the middle of the street holding a fire extinguisher.

The suspect, described as a 30-year-old Black man with dreadlocks and wearing a gray tank top, reported;y made eye contact with the victim before throwing the fire extinguisher at the vehicle as the victim swerved to avoid hitting him.

The fire extinguisher’s handle reportedly got lodged in the rear window’s vertical metal bar, preventing it from striking the children in the backseat.

However,  glass fragments from the shattered window caused minor injuries to the children, with the 8-year-old boy suffering cuts to the elbow and the 10-year-old girl sustaining cuts to her cheek and left elbow, according to Sanchez.

The children were treated at the scene by Pasadena Fire Dept. paramedics, Sanchez said.

Police were unable to locate the suspect following the incident according to Sanchez.
