A 20-year-old man suffered multiple wounds when he was shot in the back and arm on a residential street in Pasadena, authorities said Monday.

The shooting was reported at  9:46 p.m. Sunday near a park in the 300 block of Villa Street, said Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins. It came after a confrontation between two groups of young men.

Dawkins said the victim and two 19-year-old men were near Villa Parke when a car containing five men pulled up and the men got out.

“Words were exchanged,” Dawkins said.

One of the men in the larger group snatched a chain necklace off the victim and the attackers got back in their car — described only as a sedan  — and began to drive away.

As the car left, one of the passengers fired several shots at the three victims, striking the man from whom the necklace had been stolen. The other victims were not injured.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. He was reported in stable condition early Monday.

The suspects fled the scene in the sedan, heading east on Villa Street, Dawkins said.
