The Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast is celebrating its 50th anniversary on May 4 with a morning of peace, prayer, and reflection at the Pasadena Convention Center. Hosted by nonprofit Friends In Deed, the event has been bringing together hundreds of community members, local leaders, and the interfaith community for half a century.

Mayor Victor M. Gordo will lead the event under the theme “Together We Thrive, Pasadena.”

“This is a historic year for the prayer breakfast, and I am honored to continue the tradition of this gathering,” says Mayor Gordo. “We truly thrive when we all come together, and this morning will give us a chance to do just that. We look forward to seeing our business colleagues, nonprofits, residents, and city employees join us on this National Day of Prayer. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Wescom Credit Union for their generous sponsorship of this event.”

The event will run from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The featured presentation for this year’s event is Urban Voices Project. Rooted in Skid Row through music, community, and openhearted inclusion of the most marginalized members of society, Urban Voices Project amplifies artistic expression to improve well-being, strengthen social networks, and inspire individuals to be their own best advocates. Urban Voices Project is led by Leeav Sofer, Artistic Director, and Pasadena artivist Lorinda Hawkins Smith.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the hosting organization, Friends In Deed, which is an interfaith organization that provides supportive services to meet basic human needs, so those experiencing homelessness and those at-risk can rebuild their lives. Friends In Deed has five core programs, including The Women’s Room, Food Pantry, Bad Weather Supplies, Street Outreach and Housing, and Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance program.

“Friends In Deed is thrilled to once again be hosting this year’s Pasadena Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast,” says Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater, FID Executive Director. “Friends In Deed was founded by congregations coming together 129 years ago to tackle social issues in the local Pasadena area, and it is very fitting and full circle that we again have the opportunity to be the ones to bring the congregations together. In keeping with our mission, we are excited to have Urban Voices Project to inspire all attendees. This featured presentation is sure to provide a thought-provoking and inspirational message that speaks to our whole community, whether from a background of faith or not. We are also incredibly grateful to our presenting sponsor, Wescom Credit Union, for their partnership in Pasadena community engagement.”
