Mayor Bogaard Elected President of League of California Cities

Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard has assumed the top leadership role for the League of California Cities after being elected and sworn in as President of the League’s 2012-13 Board of Directors during the organization’s 114th Annual Conference & Expo in San Diego.

Mayor Bogaard replaces City of Mountain View Mayor Mike Kasperzak, who held the role for the past year. Mayor Bogaard previously served on the League’s Board and Executive Committee as its First Vice President. He has served on the League’s Board of Directors since 2007. He was officially sworn in as President during special ceremonies at the League annual conference September 7.

“It is a great honor for me to be elected President of the Board of Directors for the League of California Cities,” Mayor Bogaard said. “It is a distinction that reflects well on the great City of Pasadena and I will endeavor to represent not only Pasadena but all of California’s cities to the best of my abilities.”

Mayor Bogaard currently is serving his fourth term as Pasadena’s directly elected Mayor, having assumed those duties in 1999. Previously, he served as a Councilmember from 1978 to 1986, including as Mayor from 1984-1986.

His time as Mayor in Pasadena has been marked by a period of significant reinvestment in the community including the Metro Gold Line light rail transit system; renovation and seismic retrofit of Pasadena’s historic City Hall building; expansion of the City’s Convention Center, improvements to the Rose Bowl Stadium, and establishment of an Urgent Care Center.

Mayor Bogaard’s commitment to build consensus and his leadership style to respect all people and all points of views will be key attributes as he works constructively on behalf of all California cities with the State Legislature and Governor to address critical issues facing California today and to help ensure the state’s future success.

Mayor Bogaard currently chairs the City’s Disaster Emergency Services Council, the Legislative Committee and the Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative. He serves on the Boards or Committees for the L.A. County Sanitation District, Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority, Municipal Services Committee and the President’s Advisory Council for Occidental College.

Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
